Carl DionneComputer SpecialistMr. Dionne received his B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii-Hilo. In addition to being a system and network administrator for the CS department and CAS Dean's office, he also evaluates technology, handles purchasing, and generally supports the technology used by the department. |
Keith EdwardsAssistant ProfessorDr. H. Keith Edwards is an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He obtained his bachelors degree in mathematics and creative writing with a minor in comparative literature from the University of Michigan in 1993 and his master's degree in mathematics and computer science from Eastern Michigan University in 1999. After a wrong turn at the Canadian border in 1999, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Western Ontario in 2004 under the guidance of Dr. Michael A. Bauer. During that time, he also served as a research fellowship student at the IBM Centre for Advanced Studies in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Edwards enjoys researching performance measurement methodologies for distributed systems, applied areas of software engineering, and implementation issues for management information systems. In his spare time outside of academia, he enjoys hiking, playing Frisbee, and studying the martial arts. |

Sevki ErdoganAssociate Professor
Dr. Sevki S. Erdogan is currently an Associate Professor at the UHH. He has obtained his M. Sc. (1979) and Ph.D. (1983) from Manchester University, England. He has been with Nanyang Technological University as an Associate Professor during 1990-1999 and MentorTech Pte Ltd during 199-2003. Erdogan has taught in the Computer Science Departments of San Diego State University, Southwest State University and University of Anger, France. He has been a consultant to the United Nations and his courses have been televised to the professional communities of Southern California, USA and Mexico through PROFNET. He has also been a technical consultant to Singapore Telecom, Digital Equipment, Lockheed Martin, Singapore Institute of Management, and numerous other organizations. During the twenty years of his teaching career, Erdogan has covered a wide range of computer science courses but his major strength has been in the areas of Operating Systems, Networking, Software Engineering and Web related technologies. His work also includes development of industry related practical Master's curriculum development in the USA and Turkey. He has published extensively in international conferences and journals. He has hands-on experience in designing and implementing multi-user/multi-tasking operating systems. During his Ph.D., he has implemented the distributed file system component of the highly acclaimed MUSS Operating System. His current research work is concentrated in the areas of handwritten word recognition using Neural Networks and implementation of a parallel re-configurable architecture. |
Judith GerstingProfessorDr. Judith Gersting received her B.S. at Stetson University and her M.S. and Ph.D. at Arizona State University. She has written a number of college textbooks in computer science, including Mathematical Structures for Computer Science, 5th edition, published in 2003, and (with Michael G. Schneider), Invitation to Computer Science, C++ and Java versions, 3rd Editions, published in 2004. She is currently the chair of computer science and engineering. Areas of specialization: theoretical computer science, fault tolerant computing and computer science education. |

John GerstingProfessorDr. John Gersting received his B.S. at Purdue University and his M.S. and Ph.D. from Arizona State University. He has developed software for tracking human pedigree systems used in medical genetics research, and has served on national database standards committees. Areas of specialization: database design, client/server systems and user-interface design. |

Ted ShaneyfeltInstructorMr. Shaneyfelt received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of California-San Diego and a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii-Hilo. He served as a software engineer for over a decade in telecommunication and user interface development before returning to Hilo where he is developing web technology courses. |

J. J. WassellLecturerJ. J. Wassell received a B.S. degree in Computer Science at the University of Hawaii-Hilo. He has designed and implemented a database system to manage an educational program for gifted and talented Hawaiian children. He has also designed and managed a system to process and analyze data from worldwide aquaculture experiments. Areas of specialization: database design, database application programming and database management. |
