Major Field Achievement Test - 23 years and counting

Junior and Senior CS majors in 2010 continued the spring tradition of taking the Major Field Achievement Test in Computer Science. During the 23 year period we have participated in this testing process, UHH students have performed at or above national norms on the test overall and on each of the subareas in every year except one. This year's students put UHH in the 95th percentile of the 129 institutional scores making up the national norm. Good job!

Farewell to Dr. Judy and Dr. John Gersting Party!

The students helped put together an awesome and fun-filled party to bid farewell to Dr. Judy and Dr. John Gersting. The theme was Alice in Wonderland, and present at the celebration were all sorts of characters from the story, including the Mad Hatter! Mahalo to all who put in their time and effort, especially with finals looming right around the corner!

Photos are a courtesy of Auntie Helen Torigoe. (To view the pictures, click and drag left or right)

The farewell party for Dr. Judith and Dr. John Gersting was bittersweet - full of happiness in memory of the past, a touch of sadness knowing that it was about to end, and yet full of life and hope for the future. There was an amazing layered cake that reflected one of the first principles learned in Computer Science, many friends from all the other Science departments, and a madly grinning Cheshire cat in several corners. As a nod to the Alice course (CS 135), the party had an Alice in Wonderland theme, complete with an appearance from the Mad Hatter! Much fun was had by all, and a large mahalo goes out to all those who helped make this party possible! Mahalo nui loa!
